There was plenty of friendly rivalry in the air at Barnstaple Rugby Club on Saturday 12 September, as SCC Toyota joined supporters at Pottington Road for Barnstaple Chiefs v Taunton Titans.
SCC Toyota was delighted to be one of the match sponsors for the fixture, alongside Brewer Harding & Rowe Solicitors, and with our Toyota Centres at both Roundswell and Taunton, this was always going to be a match with a little extra interest for us.
Then, of course, there were our two pitchside contenders…
A little SCC Toyota rivalry
Ahead of the match, we described it as our very own SCC Toyota local derby:
Two teams. Two Toyota Centres. Two Toyota SUVs.
Barnstaple Chiefs had the North Devon home advantage, while Taunton Titans arrived representing the other end of SCC Toyota territory.
And alongside the rugby rivalry, we brought two of Toyota’s latest SUVs to Pottington Road for supporters to discover: the All-New Toyota RAV4 Hybrid and New Toyota Yaris Cross Hybrid.
Our Toyota product display gave visitors the opportunity to take a closer look at both models during the day, while our SCC Toyota team was on hand to chat with supporters.

There were plenty of choices to divide opinion!
A fantastic welcome at Barnstaple RFC
Rivalries aside, the day was really about enjoying local sport and supporting the communities our Toyota Centres are part of.
The SCC Toyota team thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon, and we’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone at Barnstaple Rugby Club for the warm welcome and fantastic hospitality.
It was particularly special to support the club so early in its 2026/27 campaign. The meeting with Taunton was Barnstaple Chiefs’ first home fixture and only their second league game of the new National 2 West season, following an impressive 53–24 opening-day victory away at Exeter University.
This is also a landmark season for Barnstaple RFC, with the club celebrating its 150th anniversary — making it an even better time for SCC Toyota to be involved.
Bragging rights head to Taunton
Once the action got underway, it was Taunton Titans who ultimately claimed the SCC Toyota local derby bragging rights, securing a 24–12 victory over Barnstaple Chiefs.
Congratulations to the Titans on the result, and credit to both sides for giving supporters a great afternoon of rugby.
We suspect our SCC Toyota Taunton colleagues might mention the score once or twice to the team at SCC Toyota Roundswell…
At least the question of All-New Toyota RAV4 Hybrid v New Toyota Yaris Cross Hybrid remains safely unresolved!
Supporting our local communities
For SCC Toyota, supporting events like this is about much more than having our name alongside the pitch.
With Toyota Centres in Roundswell, Taunton and Yeovil, we’re fortunate to work with customers and communities across a large part of the South West. Getting out of the showroom, meeting people and supporting the clubs and organisations that bring those communities together is something we’re proud to do.
Saturday was a great example: good company, a welcoming club, plenty of rugby and the opportunity to introduce supporters to two exciting members of the Toyota SUV range.
Thank you again to Barnstaple RFC, everyone involved in organising the day, the players from both teams and all the supporters who came along and stopped to see us.
We had a brilliant day — and we’ll be following both teams with interest as the season continues.
