Fuel vs EV Savings Calculator – Important Information
This calculator has been designed to provide an estimated comparison between the running costs of a petrol or diesel vehicle and an electric vehicle (EV). It is intended for guidance only and should not be relied upon as a guarantee of future running costs, savings or vehicle performance.
The calculator is pre-populated with example figures of 10,000 miles per year, 45 MPG, a fuel price of £1.60 per litre, an EV efficiency of 4.3 miles per kWh and an electricity cost of 7p per kWh. These figures are intended as examples only and may not reflect your own driving habits, vehicle performance or energy costs. For the most accurate estimate, we recommend entering your own figures where available.
The estimated fuel cost is calculated using the annual mileage, fuel economy and fuel price entered. The estimated electric vehicle cost is calculated using the annual mileage, vehicle efficiency and electricity cost entered. Any potential saving shown is simply the difference between the two estimated running costs.
Actual vehicle running costs will vary depending on many factors, including vehicle specification, battery size, wheel and tyre selection, driving style, traffic conditions, weather, terrain, use of heating and air conditioning, vehicle maintenance and overall efficiency. Real-world fuel economy and electric vehicle efficiency may differ significantly from the figures used within the calculator.
The default electricity cost used within the calculator reflects a typical off-peak domestic charging tariff available from selected UK energy suppliers at the time of publication. Not all customers will have access to off-peak tariffs, and electricity costs vary between suppliers, tariffs and locations. Customers who regularly use public charging infrastructure may experience higher charging costs than those shown.
Any savings displayed by the calculator are estimates only and do not take into account vehicle purchase price, finance agreements, insurance, depreciation, road tax, servicing, maintenance, home charger installation costs, public charging subscriptions, company car tax implications or any government incentives that may apply.
