25 new Toyotas handed over on day one. More than 110 planned for September. But behind every new 76 plate is a much bigger story – one involving excited customers, months of preparation and an SCC Toyota team working together to make one very important moment feel effortless.

For most of us, 76 is simply the latest pair of numbers appearing on Britain’s roads.
For someone walking into an SCC Toyota showroom to collect their new car, it can mean rather more.
There’s the first glimpse of their new car prepared and waiting for them. The freshly fitted registration plates. The pristine interior. That unmistakable feeling of sitting behind the wheel and realising: this one is mine.
And on Monday 1 September, we got to experience that moment again and again.
Across SCC Toyota in Taunton, Yeovil and Roundswell, our teams handed over 25 new vehicles on the first day of the new 76 registration.
It’s just the beginning.
We’re aiming to deliver more than 110 new vehicles during September as we approach the end of the quarter – but the numbers tell only a small part of the story.

Some new cars have been months in the making
For many of the customers collecting their new Toyota this September, their journey didn’t begin this week.
It began months ago.
They’ve chosen their model, specification, grade, options and colour and then placed an order for a vehicle that was going to be built specifically for them.
Then comes the wait.
For the customer, that can mean following progress and anticipating the day when their new car finally arrives.
For our team, an enormous amount is happening behind the scenes.
In the weeks approaching September, our administration teams are constantly checking vehicle and order updates.
Has the car been built? Has it left the factory? If it’s coming from overseas, has it been shipped to the UK? Has it reached one of Toyota’s dock facilities and been allocated to a transporter?
Or, in the case of models such as the Corolla Hatchback and Touring Sports, has it left Toyota’s UK manufacturing operation at Burnaston in Derbyshire?
Toyota has been manufacturing vehicles at Burnaston since 1992, and today’s Corolla Hatchback and Corolla Touring Sports are among the models built here in Britain.
Getting the vehicle to SCC is only the beginning.
From transporter to showroom
As vehicles begin arriving at our dealerships, a carefully coordinated process starts.
Our administration teams are preparing and checking documentation and making sure each vehicle is correctly registered and taxed with the DVLA.
Our Sales Consultants are checking that their customers’ vehicles have arrived, confirming payments or finance arrangements and, importantly, keeping customers informed.
At the same time, they’re coordinating with our vehicle progressors, workshop teams and valeters to make sure everything happens in the right sequence.
The car needs to be booked in.
It needs its pre-delivery inspection.
It needs its registration number assigned and its number plates manufactured and fitted.
It needs to be prepared, cleaned and presented.
And all of this needs to happen in time for one very specific appointment in the diary.
Because after months of waiting, the final hour can make or break the experience.
A double-booked handover, an unprepared vehicle or an unnecessary delay isn’t how anybody wants to begin their ownership experience.
That’s why so much work goes into making sure that when a customer arrives, everything simply works.
Before you see your new Toyota, our technicians have already been busy
There’s another part of the process that customers don’t necessarily get to see.
When a new Toyota comes off the transporter, our Aftersales teams get to work.
Every vehicle undergoes its pre-delivery inspection before it is handed over.
The vehicle’s systems and software are activated and checked for updates that may have been released since it left the factory.
Our technicians carry out a series of checks, including items such as tyre pressures, fluid levels, lights and vehicle systems, followed by the appropriate pre-delivery road test.

They’ll also make sure the correct registration plates are produced and fitted.
Only then can the vehicle move on to another important stage.
The finishing touches
This is where our valeting teams transform a newly delivered vehicle into someone’s new car.
Transport protection and the evidence of its journey disappear. Paintwork, glass, wheels and interior receive their finishing touches.
It’s the part of the process that brings everything to life.
And finally, the car is positioned ready for the customer.
Months of manufacturing, logistics and administration – and days of work across multiple departments at SCC Toyota – come together for one moment:
the handover.
A very special first 76-plate handover in Yeovil
Among our first customers celebrating the new registration at SCC Toyota were Kirsty Rapo and her partner Simon, collecting their new Toyota C-HR+ Excel with the Premium Pack in Mineral Bi-tone.
Sales Consultant Ryan had the pleasure of completing their handover – and theirs was particularly special as the first C-HR+ of its kind to head out onto the road from our Yeovil centre.
For Kirsty and Simon, it was the exciting start of life with their new Toyota.
For Ryan and the wider SCC team, it was the culmination of all those individual steps that had brought the car to that moment.
And then it was time to prepare for the next customer.

And the next.
And the next.
That’s registration month.
“I live 50 miles away… but happily make that trip”
Customer service is difficult to measure simply by looking at the finished car.
Sometimes our customers describe it better than we ever could.
Ryan McCarthy recently left SCC Toyota Taunton a five-star Google review after traveling considerably further than his nearest Toyota retailer:
“I live 50 miles away from Taunton but happily make that trip because SCC are simply the best Toyota dealer. They’re always really helpful, really friendly, and very professional.”
He added that he intends to continue owning Toyotas – and continue using SCC.
For us, that means a great deal.
Because exceptional customer experience doesn’t belong to one person or one department.
It starts long before somebody walks through the showroom doors.
Administration, Sales, Aftersales, technicians, progressors and valeters all contribute to the same customer journey.
During a registration month, that teamwork becomes particularly visible – and often means early starts, late finishes and extra hours throughout September to keep everything moving.
Every member of the SCC team plays their part.
SCC Toyota enters September ahead of a growing UK market
All this activity is happening during an encouraging period for Britain’s new-car market.
According to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), 1,294,499 new cars were registered in the UK during the first seven months of 2026 – an increase of 9.5% compared with the same period in 2025.
July continued that momentum, with registrations rising 11.7% to 156,571 vehicles, representing the market’s eighth consecutive month of growth and the strongest July since 2019.
Electrification is playing an increasingly important role too. In July, registrations of battery-electric cars increased by 44.5% year-on-year, plug-in hybrids by 33.6% and hybrids by 11.6%.
The SMMT’s latest outlook forecasts approximately 2.18 million new-car registrations during 2026, around 8% higher than the 2025 market.
And here at SCC Toyota, we’re pleased to be growing even faster.
Our enquiry levels are currently 12% ahead of 2025, while new-car sales are up 19% year-on-year.
That means our new-car growth is currently running at around twice the rate of the wider UK new-car market.
It’s a fantastic reflection of the customers choosing SCC Toyota – and the people across our business working hard to look after them.
Missed the months of waiting? There could still be a 76 plate waiting for you.
Many of the vehicles we’re handing over this month were ordered well in advance, specifically built in the customer’s chosen specification and colour ready for September.
But what if you didn’t order months ago?
We’ve been working with Toyota to secure a selection of physical new-car stock for customers who would still like to get behind the wheel of a new 76-plate Toyota this September.
We’ve brought those cars together in our Factory Fixed Price Menu.
Rather than asking customers to navigate numerous different offers, we’ve created a simple selection of available vehicles with exceptional fixed prices, alongside applicable national Toyota finance offers.
These are real cars available from stock – which means there’s no need to wait months for a factory order.
But there is an important catch.
There are only so many of them.
Our Factory Fixed Price Menu applies to selected physical stock on a first-come, first-served basis.
So, while our teams prepare to hand over more than 110 new vehicles this September, there’s still time for your new Toyota to become part of the story.
