For a business, choosing a commercial vehicle isn’t simply about picking a van or pick-up.
It needs to work for the job, suit the way the business operates and, crucially, spend as much time as possible on the road rather than off it.
That’s the thinking behind Toyota’s plans for further growth in the European light commercial vehicle market, revealed at IAA Transportation in Hannover.
Toyota Professional has more than doubled its European LCV sales over the past five years and is now targeting 200,000 annual sales and an eight per cent European market share by 2030.
But behind those numbers is something much more relevant to businesses here in the South West: more choice, more powertrain options and a continued focus on keeping businesses moving.

The Right Commercial Vehicle for the Job
From trades and construction to delivery fleets, agriculture and businesses covering significant rural mileage, no two commercial vehicle requirements are exactly the same.
That’s why Toyota continues to follow a multi-path approach rather than assuming one powertrain will work for every business.
Depending on the model and market, Toyota’s LCV range includes battery electric, Diesel 48V and diesel powertrains, giving businesses the opportunity to choose a vehicle based on their actual operational requirements.
For us at SCC Toyota, that’s an important distinction.
The right commercial vehicle isn’t necessarily the newest technology or the same solution chosen by the business next door. It’s the vehicle and powertrain that make sense for your mileage, payload, routes, charging opportunities and day-to-day operation.
Battery Electric Across the Toyota LCV Range
Toyota has continued to expand its battery electric commercial vehicle offering and now offers BEV versions across its entire European LCV range.
Battery electric vehicles currently account for 22 per cent of Toyota Professional sales in Europe, compared with a market average of around 11 per cent.
The arrival of the All-New Hilux Battery Electric also brings electric power to Toyota’s pick-up range.
It means businesses considering the move to electric now have options across Toyota’s principal LCV segments, from compact vans through to larger commercial vehicles and pick-ups.
But Toyota isn’t suggesting battery electric will be the answer for everybody.
Different customers have different operational requirements, which is why there is no single solution for every business. Toyota continues to offer the right technology for the right application

That’s an approach which makes particular sense when you’re talking to businesses with hugely different operating patterns.
And Toyota Isn’t Stopping at Battery Electric
Toyota’s multi-path approach also means continuing to develop other technologies.
At IAA Transportation, Toyota confirmed plans for a hydrogen fuel cell electric Hilux, scheduled for production in 2028.
Early target performance data for the Hilux FCEV includes a driving range of more than 248 miles (400km WLTP) and towing capability of up to 2,500kg.
It’s another example of Toyota exploring different ways to reduce vehicle emissions while recognising that commercial vehicle operators have practical requirements that have to be met.

Keeping Businesses Moving
Of course, choosing the right van or pick-up is only one part of running a commercial vehicle.
Uptime matters.
A vehicle that’s sitting off the road can mean lost working time, delayed jobs and unhappy customers.
That’s why service support forms one of the three key pillars behind Toyota Professional’s strategy, alongside customer choice and its wider range of business products and services.
Across Europe, Toyota Professional now has a network of more than 500 specialist centres supporting business customers.
Toyota’s new vehicle sales promise also includes support designed to help maximise vehicle uptime, including express servicing, courtesy vehicles and roadside assistance, although specific provision can vary by market.
Toyota Warranty Support Beyond the Initial Warranty
Longer-term ownership is also supported by Toyota’s service-activated warranty programme.
Following the initial three-year manufacturer warranty period, eligible Toyota vehicles, including LCVs, can receive an additional 12 months or 10,000 miles of warranty cover when they have a qualifying service at a Toyota workshop.
This can continue, subject to eligibility and qualifying servicing, until the vehicle reaches 10 years old or 100,000 miles – whichever comes first.
For businesses planning to keep a commercial vehicle for several years, that additional reassurance can be an important part of the overall ownership picture.
Terms, conditions and eligibility criteria apply.

A Van That Works for Your Business – Not the Other Way Around
Commercial vehicles often need to do considerably more than leave the factory and head straight to work.
A business might need racking, specialist equipment, refrigeration, a tipper body, signage or a complete vehicle conversion.
Toyota is therefore expanding both its factory and local conversion network, with specialist conversion partners working to Toyota-specified standards.
Alongside the vehicles themselves, Toyota Professional also brings together services designed to support vehicle acquisition and operation, including Toyota Financial Services, Toyota Insurance Services and KINTO fleet, leasing and mobility services.
Products, availability, eligibility and terms vary. Finance is subject to status and terms and conditions.
What Does This Mean for South West Businesses?

For businesses across Somerset, Devon and the wider South West, Toyota’s plans aren’t simply about selling more commercial vehicles across Europe.
They’re about providing more ways to find the right commercial vehicle for the job.
A local tradesperson covering rural miles may have very different requirements from a company operating a predictable delivery route. A business running several vehicles has different priorities again. Payload, towing, range, charging, fuel costs, conversion requirements and vehicle downtime can all affect the decision.
That’s where having a conversation about how the vehicle will actually be used becomes important.
At SCC Toyota, our Fleet & Business team can help you explore the Toyota Professional range and consider the vehicle, powertrain and business solution that best fits your operation.
Whether that’s diesel, Diesel 48V or battery electric, the starting point is the same:
